No foreknowledge needed, but the child has to be 4 years old.

The course is held in the small pool and lasts for 30 minutes.

Parents are not in the pool with the child, but are welcome to watch the course from the pool deck. Children that are insecure in water, can expect to use some time before they are ready to enter the next course level.

Learning objectives:

  • Dive – to be able to hold your head under water for 5-10 seconds
  • orient yourselves underwater
  • Be able to retrieve objects from the bottom

Baby Seal level

Selunge – Baby seal level:

You will learn to swim crawl with rhythmic breathing as well as basic back swimming. The major goal on this level is to be able to swim full length continuously (crawl and back strokes).

The course is held in the small pool and lasts for 30 minutes. Parents are not in the pool with the child, but are welcome to watch the course from the pool deck. Children that are insecure in water, can expect to use some time before they are ready to enter the next course level

Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • Glide in arrow, both on stomach and back.
  • Good crawl leg kicks
  • Good back stroke leg kicks
  • Glide and leg kick with swivel with straight body from belly to back and back to belly

Learning objectives:

  • Crawl (overlap) with rhythmic breathing, at least one length continuous
  • Back swimming – at least one length
  • to do a sliding dive from the pool edge

Average time on Baby Seal level?
6-7 months (once a week)

Dolphin level

The children practice developing good basic technique in breast swimming and basic butterfly technique.
The courses are held in the large pool and last for 40 minutes. Children can expect to use a longer period on the advanced levels.

Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • Swim 25 meters of crawl with a good breathing technique
  • Swim 25 meters back strokes with a good technique
  • Dive
  • Swim basic breast swimming for at least 15 meters.
  • Do butterfly kicks

 Learning objectives:

  • Good basic technique in breast swimming for at least 25 meters
  • Basic coordinated butterfly (with flippers) for at least 12 meters
  • Butterfly kicks for at least 8 meters
  • Breast swimming with proper coordination for at least 15 meters.¨
  • Do a swimming dive
  • Swim with clothes on
  • Strain the water

7 -9 months (once a week)

Turtle level

On this level the child  learn to float on the stomach and back (with straight body)

 Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • orientate yourself underwater
  • retrieve object from the pool bottom
  • dive between the legs of the instructor
  • jump from the poolside and dive to the bottom to retrieve an object
  • dive with your head underwater for 5-10 seconds

 The course is held in the small pool and lasts for 30 minutes. Parents are not in the pool with the child, but are welcome to watch the course from the pool deck. Children that are insecure in water, can expect to use some time before they are ready to enter the next course level.

 Learning objectives:

  • Float on stomach and back (without support) – with arms alongside and straight arms above head
  • Turn from stomach to back with arms along the side and straight arms above the head
  • Jump from the poolside, float like a ball and stretch the body in the arrow

In this course we continue practicing good technical crawl and back strokes. The children will also learn more butterfly, breast strokes, turns and diving, evolving technical skills.

The courses are held in the large pool and last for 40 minutes. Children can expect to use a longer period on the advanced levels.

Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • Crawl for at least 25 meters
  • Back stroke swimming for 25 meters.
  • Butterfly with flipper for 10 meters
  • Turning and diving at beginner level

Learning objectives:

  • Medley which is:
    • 5 meters with butterfly swimming
    • 5 meters with back stroke swimming
    • 5 meters with breaststroke swimming
    • 5 meters with crawl swimming
  • Every swimming art must be connected with correct turns
  • Know basic life-saving techniques
  • Start dives

Average time on Shark level:
7 -9 months (once a week)

Penguin level

Before you enter this level you must know how to:

  • to float in line position (arrow) on the stomach and back for at least 15 seconds without help
  • master turning from stomach to back without putting their feet in the ground.

The course is held in the small pool and lasts for 30 minutes.
Parents are not in the pool with the child, but are welcome to watch the course from the pool deck.

Learning objectives:

  • Sliding on stomach and back – line holding
  • Slide in line posture with rotation from stomach to back and breath, turning back on stomach
  • Glide with crawl leg kick on stomach and line posture
  • Glide with crawl leg kick on back – line holding and breathing – turn body on belly and crawl leg
  • Jump and float up – line posture on stomach and crawl leg – turn back – custom breathing

 

Sea Lion level

The children learn basic breast swimming techniques (leg kick, arms and breath), as well as butterfly kicks and turns.
The courses are held in the large pool and last for 40 minutes. Children can expect to use a longer period on the advanced levels.

Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • 25 meters of crawl swimming with correct breathing technique
  • Dive into the pool from a standing position
  • Sculling on your stomach

Learning objectives:

  • Breast kicks with the foot blade angled in correct position for at least 15 meters
  • Breast arm stroke with proper breathing for at least 15 meters
  • Butterfly kicks for at least 8 meters
  • Breast swimming with proper coordination for at least 15 meters.

6 -9 months (once a week)

The children will learn basic crawl and backstroke swimming on this course. Once technique is incorporated, students will have the opportunity to continue on the advanced courses.

The course starts in the small pool but continue in the big pool after reviewing that the child can swim. The course lasts for 30 minutes.

Before you enter this level, you must know how to:

  • The child must have reached the age of 9 years
  • The child must feel safe in the water an be able to swim a little (eg. breaststroke)

Basic technique in crawl and backstroke swimming

Average time on Shark level:
The children must expect to stay on the course for a longer period to achieve the basic techniques.
